The new Spotify UI is an all-timer piece of shit. Jaw is on the fucking floor.

Not to their bosses! Who just have to make it look like the usage numbers are going up. Seriously one extra button. A little more scrolling. If you're dealing with thousands and thousands of users then it adds up to a MAJOR bump in usage for them.

It's pure stat juking and there's been an arms race in it when it comes to UX design lately and it's not only slowly killing the audience that wants to use these apps, it's becoming the de facto way to approach design. It's literally designed to waste your fucking time.

Again, this is a simplification of something with a lot more moving parts, but it all starts with understanding what we actually fucking measuring. Ask anyone in sports metrics, you measure something in a shitty way, you're going to get a shitty means to that shitty end.

Also, there are so many brilliant UI designers out there who do INCREDIBLE work. You'll notice the most seamless things are ones that depend on you repeatedly spending money (think food order apps) - and if you don't think they're ripshit about the new philosophy then, well, yeah

Game designers master the art of making users spend more time *and enjoying it*. The whole point of a game is to create artificial tasks players enjoy executing.

It drives me up the wall! 30 years as a software engineer (not UI specialist, but I know a bit), so fairly tech savvy. When apps change and I can't find things any more or it becomes that bit more unusable, instant rage. Plus fear this is the moment that I can't keep up any more.pic.twitter.com/QXepU7n1vd

I just want to see what's in my queue, Spotify. I don't want to spend an hour technofaffing to find out how to do something that was blindingly obvious yesterday.pic.twitter.com/3EdLuRpgdR
