It won't "cost" them anything. It's a tax so it's by definition only a portion. They'll accumulate 78b less and the fact that 100 people are set to accumulate well over 78bn w/o this tax should have us all in the streets.

Those 7 words doing some heavy lifting as a joke on the insidious use of "cost" to describe a tax in the articles title.

Wait, are you really doubling down on this? Because they're doing the perfect amount of lifting on the insidious use of the term by expressing low-energy faux concern, which again, is the joke and why everyone liked it.

So expressing faux concern for billionaires is somehow also taking a swipe at the publication for using a wording that invokes a negative outlook on the tax? Also, are you insinuating that this is the first "who will think of the billionaires" joke? Wild

I really, really don't understand why you're tripling down on this. Of course it's a swipe. And, like, of course it's not insinuating that it's the first! The very assumption that I would think it's first joke of this type is twice as wild as me explaining it. And if you've seen

those kinds of jokes before, then how come you bulldozed over it and responded as if it was bing literal? I'm trying to parse this because like, there's a WHOLE conversation to have about what jokes are actually productive. But this feels like an "up is down" conversation.

Alright here's the confusion. Y'all think my initial comment was directed at the joke but it was purely a reaction to seeing the negative "cost" as opposed to a positive framing like "tax revenue". Scott clearly made a joke, I was critiquing the media, tangential to the joke.
