I had been waiting to watch TED LASSO until anhedonia had calmed down a bit (which also took a bit). Anyway I started it today and OH NO I watched the whole thing and it has the best writing and I cried a lot and laughed out loud 12 times every episode.

How representative is the first episode? I bounced pretty hard on it but people keep telling me it's great....

For my money (crazy unpopular take) it starts out ok, but quickly turns crazy manipulative, one-dimensional and not-that-funny. With some bafflingly poorly structured and unearned twists near the end. Really don't see the appeal, but glad people are liking it.

I literally can't even imagine what you're talking about - to the point I don't wanna get it into it, especially spoiling- funny is one thing, but... honestly my best advice is maybe re-think about what those other words mean and how to come at things.

You do understand this is super condescending, right? I don't need "advice" for having my own opinion, just because it differs from yours. I chose those words because they mean precisely how I feel. And I came at it as an unbiased viewer (and also, btw, an active TV-writer).

I fully understand it can be condescending and I'm sorry, and I get everyone's entitled to their opinion. I'm just trying to be as forthright as possible that finding a show like this manipulative and one-dimensional really, really strikes me as weird and... it's like...

this website is also weird, everyone acts like we have to come together with this hyper respect and understanding of every "eye of the beholder" but sometimes we need a kick in the pants / to have our opinions rattled. Lord knows theres times that I have. I dunno.

What I'll say is the reason it's striking a chord is not because people like one-dimensional and manipulative things, which, you may not realize, is exactly what having that opinion implies. You can't cut that way and and then play defensive like you didnt say the thing you did.

But I understand this a complex thing thing that isn't easy to unpack, too.
