I had been waiting to watch TED LASSO until anhedonia had calmed down a bit (which also took a bit). Anyway I started it today and OH NO I watched the whole thing and it has the best writing and I cried a lot and laughed out loud 12 times every episode.
What I'll say is the reason it's striking a chord is not because people like one-dimensional and manipulative things, which, you may not realize, is exactly what having that opinion implies. You can't cut that way and and then play defensive like you didnt say the thing you did.

But I understand this a complex thing thing that isn't easy to unpack, too.

I just embrace the fact that the quality of writing isn't binary 'good' or 'bad'. Ted Lasso clearly works for tons of critical-thinking people. It came across as manipulative and slightly jumbling to me. It can be both those things at once for different people, and that's ok.

People just process this stuff differently. I know there are people out there who, for example, hate 'Paddington 2' or 'RoboCop'. It's baffling to me, and if they'd try to explain why I wouldn't be able to understand what they'd be saying. But it doesn't make them "wrong".
