I mean, the point of #Wandavision is that it's (probably) about Wanda's emotional breakdown putting herself/people in the area in her alternate reality where she only kind of knows what's happening bc she's in denial...https://twitter.com/FilmCritHULK/status/1352826636920524802 …

WANDAVISION's constant attempts to ignore its own narrative give us SO MUCH to talk about when it comes to the point of mysteries, themes needing more than texture, and why baseline realities matter. The audience doesn't need to know that immediately for it to be compelling, and I dont get why it's bad writing here to not tell us the mystery at the beginning. This isn't a show that is trying to stand on its own so it seems strange to me to critique it as if it is.

Like it very much is not for people who don't have any familiarity with the MCU, and having surface-level knowledge of old sitcoms is also helpful. The premise is that of a show that already needs you to be familiar with stuff outside of it before even turning on the first ep.

I don't think it's bad writing for the sitcom stuff to be aesthetics/texture either; presumably Wanda is creating this reality based off of her own memories of watching U.S. sitcoms as a Sokovian so she doesn't have to be intimately familiar w/how they were written.

Heres my argument: literally everything you just said is a projection of something not in the text. Which is fine. But its like... this is what tv is trying to do now. And im trying to make argument it is undramatic and lazy and relies 100 percent on the rabid fan doing the work.

And i think rabid fans are so eager to do that with a lot of marvel that it completely erases all other meaningful tenets of storytelling?

And to be clear! I don't think it's wrong to project! I want people to enjoy things and have fun and so much more. But I do think it's worth acknowledging how much an audience is bringing to a thing while a show is playing coy - especially when they might not make good on promise
