Definitely more cinematically the future than today. A record playing on camera is kinetic, Spotify on camera is meh. You can slam a landline, you wouldn’t do that to an iPhone. The futurism of the 80s had more dramatic moving parts.

The problem is that we made most of the crazy futuristic shit but made it as mundane as possible. Like, we made tiny supercomputers but we still think of them as phones. There's no wonder in our tech

I think it’s fair to question this in the sense that the real world is very iterative, while the concept of futurism is not. I will say however, Tesla Autopilot is the closest I’ve felt to wonder in a while.
