I’m only about 30% in but love this essay (even if I’m skimming at first to avoid spoilers). The sense of blended family and community makes me tear up at times. (The mass destruction, however, seems out of place, and suuuuper chilling.)

Thankfully, so.

Any spoilers in this article? I still really wanna play the game!
-
Yup, there is a little. I would say that it's basically spoilers for like, the first half of the game. So you might wanna play first and then come back

Great article, agree all around [despite loving the game too.] Since video games need so many disposable enemies to beat up, surprised this series they hasn't leaned into some sort of "robot army" type faction or something yet.
-
I think people didn't like beating up large amounts of Robots in the Avengers game. Spider Man's villains were in response to Avengers though, just suggesting people prefer beating up huhmens rather than robo-goons

Really liking the game but there’s definitely rough spots. One of those little “stop the crime” missions popped up and it was literally just “Go beat up the looters!” My eyes rolled thru the ceiling. Kinda over video games where you spend so much time sending people to prison.

When it comes to the pulpy silliness of superheroes, Spidey Shattered Dimensions pretty much has both of these games beat. That game drops the fashy elements and just gets to the meat of Spidey beating up goofy henchmen/monsters as well as bantering with his rogues.

Great article. You captured my mixed feelings toward the entirety of the game. I would have loved to have seen some better thinking when it came to Spider-Man being the one to hold up the pillars of power and oppression.
-
One thing that really jumps out at me is that when you're fighting the main story villian there is one line that captures the whole struggle. When they say, "we're disposable to them."
