Random, but I've finally gotten into DIVINITY II and I adore it. I particularly loved the level-headed difficulty spikes, but now there's one at level 12 that feels ABSURD. I can't beat anything and all the other fights are higher level. What the hell.

The way they balanced it, some fights are tougher for magic builds and some are tougher for physical builds. It makes replaying it really interesting later, but also some fights are unreasonably difficult for the wrong damage types

Yes! That's where I had to lower the difficulty. At every turn there were wipe fights. The surprise lizards, dwarf ambush, the scarecrows, freakin Alice. Ugh.

Are you talking about the Dwarf ambush in the caves? 'Cause my wife and I are co-op playing now, and somehow wandered into that entire area's back end (because 3/4 of our team have some kind of teleport and we were exploring), and it was an accidental cakewalk.

There's almost always quests in town you can advance or haven't found. Explore and talk meticulously. See if you can go up another level before dealing with those stupid scarecrows.
