You don't have to rate the movies. I personally just use it as a film diary with the occasional comment

I'm a pretty avid user of letterboxd's music cousin Rateyourmusic. I think the star rating system might be effecting my thinking as well. If you don't mind me asking, what about films has changed for you since you started using stars?

You can write reviews without stars, and there's also just an option to heart or not heart movies too, which is separate from the 1-10 rating.
