Film makers seem to work (at their best) from the assumption that the viewer is intelligent and emotionally adjusted. Games seem to work from the assumption that the player has the wit of mould.

I suppose film makers are assured that if someone doesn’t get something it’s their loss and not to the detriment of their ‘product’. If someone doesn’t ‘get’ something in a game they reject it and it has failed.

I’m sure this is often the case. But, without naming names, sometimes film makers are drafted in for this. Or feted games designers spout on about their love of and close observation of classic movies. And still the hokeyness persists. It’s bizarre.
