Okay, is it me or is the difficulty spike in AC: Odyssey downright obtuse? I like it for a lot of choices by why can every single soldier suddenly got a pair of eagle eyes and can spot me in a damn second?

The design team didn't know that an MTX EXP Boost would be offered. So that's not the reason why level scales. Not defending the design decision (wasn't my department), but that wasn't the reason.

iirc the reason was more along the lines of, "Let's make sure we incentivize the player not just blitzing through the main quest. Let's make sure they have a reason to engage with secondary content as well. Because there's some great content there."
