IME Origins works best if you think of it as the start of a new franchise that shares a fiction with the previous games rather than an extension of something familiar.

It's the 'every Ubisoft game must be the same' issue that has plagued them for the past few years. Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Ghost Recon, etc..same game, different trappings.

Honestly, the only one I straight up HATED is still Unity. Ugh. Clunky story with clunky characters using crap mechanics and a terrible UE all tied up around explaining a single plot detail that anyone who actually paid attention in Rogue and Black Flag had already figured out.

I actually really liked the combat in Unity. Thought it balanced the spectacle of previous entries with some actual mechanical depth, and I really wish they fleshed that out rather than swapping to a generic action/rpg knockoff

Origins is like AssCreed only by name at that point. I enjoyed it but no illusions it’s the same series anymore

I recently played AC Odyssey and hoped for more of the same when I started Origins a few weeks ago. Not the same. Kassandra was far more engaging as a character.
