I've been thinking about the perfunctory, listless way we use the action trope of "bad guys closing in" and what it's missing at the core of dramatic writing (Bonus: lots of Raymond Chandler talk!). Enjoy <3https://www.patreon.com/posts/39896559

Did anyone understand the plot of The Big Sleep? It's the most "when in doubt ... gun in his hand" story I've seen, but it's almost the only one that uses it effectively, à la Pynchon.

After reading that article I'm reminded how many times directors are told to randomly add action scenes between "the talking". It also explains why they can get so boring at times.

Hilariously, it's a misunderstanding of a bible metaphor.

when i saw fury road the second or third time i noticed why i loved it so much (amongst other things). The first action scene between Max and Furiosa has more clearly defined goals and wants/needs than most modern action movies in their whole running time.
