Everything right up to the "soldier's death"- careful? familial? slow? but pointed series of character work full of causation and therefore buts- works tremendously. Also the blue / dolor drained filter is outta control in some spots but it's THE YEAAAR 2000

I remember when I was in college I read a comparison between how action was framed in this vs Spartacus (1960 one). In Spartacus the widescreen was used to it's full potential, while in Gladiator it was framed to fit for 4:3 tv screens before widescreen was in every house.
