I'm watching for COMMANDO for the first time in like 26 years and now realize this movie is good actually.

Like, in my mind it was all part of the overwrought cheese and trying too hard - but there's an astounding amount on intentionality to every moment - all the gag's work, every moment is playing with expectation and language. Bang on.

Good for mindless action, or *good* good?

I met him once at a party unexpectedly, and was far too drunk to talk. So I ran away like a coward. C'est la vie

IT IS THE GREATEST THING EVER. WRAPS A CAR AROUND A LIGHT POLE, BOTH OCCUPANTS BOUNCE OFF THE DASH LIKE MARBLES IN A SPRAY CAN. SMASH CUT TO ARNOLD CHECKING HIS PASSENGER: "ARE YOU ALL RIGHT?" Shakespeare wept with jealousy.

And the passenger didn't even have a *seat*, as Arnold had previously ripped it out of the car

it was one of the few VHS tapes we had in Moscow, a tv edited version, and I would watch it over and over again as a little kid.

later a lot of the same people came together again and made Predator, which is a film that nobody really questions.
