It was a powerful mess for me. Lost my dad too soon and watched it with my kids who never knew him. The writer in me eventually let go of the story problems as the feels took over.

I lost my dad, too. At 19 with 3 younger brothers. My writer brain didn’t turn on until after it was over, but in the moment I just couldn’t get there with it because I couldn’t believe it within the context of what the film had presented.

Definitely curious why you think the sentiment still lands, so looking forward to reading. The biggest fix that I think would have helped would have been to show some of the flashback stuff at the top. Barley never seemed like anything other than a screw-up.
