Disagree. If deviation from the source material were the primary problem, it never would have gotten off the ground. As it was, it strongly resonated with audiences for at least 4 seasons and coasted on that goodwill for 2-3 more.

I still wonder why it was this specific season that did it for most people, when these issues have been dragging since season 5 at least. You say 'subtility', but it's not as if all the Arya training, sansa treatment, Dorne stuff, etc. were subtle mistakes. It was catastrophic.
