Rarely are we afforded clarity on when we were "out" on a given show, it tends to be a slow erasure - but I remember the exact moment I stopped actively watching The Simpsons.

Do you appointment watch Bob’s Burgers then? This thread is the exact reason why I love it. Well that and puns.
-
Well said. Bob’s Burgers makes me smile and occasionally laugh out loud but it also makes me misty eyed on occasion because they love each other so much. The bus ride back after the museum field trip is such a sweet moment, one of many. Long story short,
@BobsBurgersFOX is great.

The early seasons were insanely funny WHILE being packed with genuine, heartfelt sentimentality. Not an easy task for any show... And a near-impossible task for an animated show

My moment wasn’t anything that insightful, but I remember a sight gag of Ralph eating a literal crayon sandwich and thinking ‘they no longer understand what made the characters funny’.

Curiously enough, Ned Flanders is the most sympathetic character now. He's still a cheerful religious zealot but also incredibly decent and loving despite suffering terrible loss twice over. He's one of the few characters who hasn't become mean or cruel.

They used to switch up showrunners every couple of years until Season 13 they brought back Al Jean (who'd done a terrific job before) and he's kept the show on autopilot ever since. Such a shame that it might be remembered more for its longevity than for how brilliant it once was

you should expand this into a full essay. I was never sure what went wrong around this time in the show, but this is definitely part of it.

there's this video essay I remember liking:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqFNbCcyFkk&list=PLsim1gduirwCHLTu-1qqZ-2yTtVin59D0&index=18&t=0s …

As someone who was raised by fundamentalists didn't even know the show existed at all until my mid teens my first association with it was always jokes that were cruel or racist
