It finally settled a tad and I got 1-2 hours sleep, but I got up the next day and still felt awful. My lymph nodes started swelling, too. It became hard to swallow. The alternation of chills and overheating continued. ... I also have zero congestion.

Symptom-wise, I’m well on my way to Corona-Town. Not to be flippant. But I also asked my friend who is currently being tested for Covid19 in a different state (after testing negative for everything else) and they described the same exact symptoms in first 24 hours.

So I talked to my doctor. I’m already quarantining, but does it help to get tested? Is even leaving my house more dangerous to others? But the thing is I had all the symptoms, minus one, but it’s THE COUGH which is key. But I was told until it comes, no testing, just call back.

So I get to just continue the quarantine. By this point, I’ve talked to absolutely everyone I’ve been in contact with. I just have to deal with the moment to moment and observe my symptoms.

Then last night, the cough came. All the other symptoms continued. Today the cough is so weird, it’s not like irritation coughs I’m used to, it’s like I can’t catch my breath and anything more than shallow breaths hurts.

So now that I have the cough. I call my doc. We go over everything, but here’s the problem. I could tell he was frustrated with the health department when he, you know, started talking about being frustrated with the health department.

Because they can’t test unless I’ve 1) been traveling to “countries effected” (you know, as if we’re not effected) or 2) knowingly interacted with someone who has tested positive.

And it’s like, dude, it’s LA and I probably could have publicly interacted with lots of people last week who had travelled or exposure, or a million other things. I was frustrated. He felt the same frustration.

To be clear, when it comes to establishing just how many are getting sick and who has it, this effectively dysfunction incarnate. The height of the US being unprepared to deal with the BASIC need to test those who actually have all the symptoms.

You’ve got to lie to the doctor and tell them you have a friend who tested positive. It’s for their own good, and yours, and ours.

Maybe this person tested positive since the last time you spoke with the doctor...?
