I'm re-watching CLUE and realized the only way a MONOPOLY movie works is if it's a bunch of comedians like John Mulaney, Jason Mantzoukas, and Aubrey Plaza playing ostentatious old-timey billionaires trying to screw each other out of their property.

IIRC wasn't that Ridley Scott's script? It didn't star a bunch of comedians (I remember Jude Law was in the mix) but he was describing it as a comedy about how capitalism turns sweet people into monsters.

Part of the reason Clue works so well is that all the hijinks are against the backdrop of the Red Scare and McCarthyism. Monopoly can be a wacky comedy that serves as an indictment of capitalism, easy peezy.
