I got an idea to do a fun "odd menu items!" thread from every chain restaurant, just like I did with my old international McDonald's thread, but as I went through it made me realize that every American chain restaurant... Basically has the exact same menu. And I got depressed

To use that term again, these places are brutally convenient. They are safe and known quantities. I can defer to them like anyone else. But as a result, they can punch and push every mom and pop roadside to the curb in seconds.

To be clear, I'm not telling you anything you don't know, already. Of course we all know. It's just that as I combed through every menu looking for distinction, the sameness felt so incredibly suffocating. And sometimes it's important to see the forest.

I noticed a trend for newer chains to have a stripped-down menu. Raising Caines, your only choice is how many chicken strips you want. Several burger places, how many patties do you want and what toppings/condiments. Do one thing and do it well and cut on analysis paralysis.

Are they more fast food or sit down family chain?

Oh definitely. Here, it's the little taco stand: gonna have amazing food for dirt cheap. I assume other places have their own local equivalents
