Anyone else have problems with big story points and answers to relative mysteries (like characters being alive) happening in marketing materials? Or is this another semi-product of the binge model?

To be clear, I think the fact a lot of people not being surprised ties into my feelings of cynicism when it comes to exactly this kind of brand of obvious fake-out storytelling.

I do not enjoy seeing any major reveals ahead of release. Especially characters thought dead being alive.

I disagree with it being a fake-out. It was well-suspected enough that the story would continue -- assuring an audience that a plot twist only seemed final would only cheapen things if there were no consequences, no change. That's not the case here.

As cynical as it sounds, I feel like this should be taken into account when crafting the story. Like, if a big reason why people would care about a story is "see legacy characters," maybe don't make their presence a mystery within the story.

If they don't need to keep secret an important element, you know in advance that the script's gonna be weak.

I wouldn’t even class it as a fake out, he was obviously still alive. I didn’t for a second think that he was actually dead. Pretty sure they even hinted at him being alive at the end of the last season

They should have just revealed him at the end of last season if they were just going to do this

It depends, you also have to consider that the tv and film media loudly broadcasts whose cast in things and when their shooting as soon as they find out so secrets are pretty much impossible to keep anyways

To what you’re specifically referencing, yes, I agree. That character can’t POSSIBLY be dead, so it’s a total half-assed fake out. It’s a big part of what made me lose interest in The Walking Dead.

I've almost entirely stopped watching trailers & teasers for things now, especially so established shows/films which I already know the basic premise & characters. WAY too much info is given away these days.

It may be that the creators just don't see it as that big of a reveal.
