They've been getting better at this over time (the new Eberron sourcebook has an Orc variant without an inherent Int penalty, for example) but I am *definitely* the camp of "this, but more of it and a lot more to boot."

The thing is, when you notice how often the race/skill tropes get mixed in with the 'chosen one/savior' trope, it all starts to feel like a pretty-fied reflection of the diseased society that created it
