Except all the aggression came from JJ. Rian Johnson didn’t actively negate major plot points and erase characters from TFA.

Sometimes the way he can’t conjure an original idea and just remixes other people’s stuff works out ok (Star Trek, TFA) and other times it’s a thudding disaster (Into Darkness, Rise)

Indeed! It's one of those things we talk about all the time. Mostly people actually have the right idea on how things should theoretically wrap up, but it's all about framing. How do you make it so the final event is the perfect catharsis to a dilemma created at the beginning?
