So I've ended up watching Home Alone for the first time since it came out, maybe? Can't remember. But I gotta say... this movie does some basic stuff really, really well. I imagine that might sound really obvious to many of you!

I'm at the violent end part and damn it all works because it's shot really, really well.

I’m really keen to rewatch it for first time in probably a decade. After seeing “The Movies that made us” on it & how it almost didn’t happen, there’s a few scenes in particular I wanna have a real good look at.

scrolled just to check for a reference to The Movies That Made Us because same

Chris Columbus is a very underrated director. Never gets the credit he deserves for what he did with the first two Harry Potter films. In the hands of another director, the Harry Potter film franchise might not have turned into what it did.

Home Alone is a masterclass in environmental setup. The audience doesn’t realize it, but within like 20 minutes, we’ve been exposed to what amounts to a childhood Chekhov’s arsenal

Watched it yesterday after a VERY long time and realized what makes the story great isn't the take down of the robbers, but how being forced to overcome his fears resulted in his friendship with his neighbor. And that helps the man conquer his fear, literally changing his life.

I just rewatched with my kids last week and was struck at how well executed all around it was. Story moves effortless, situations universally relatable, music all-time. All I had remembered was the cartoon violence that should’ve murdered those crooks.

This has been my exact experience.
