Two immediate design issues: 1) You have to hold X to get rid of every menu prompt. Yeah, they don't want to miss instructions by accident, but I HAVE TO DO IT EVERY TIME. 2) The glaring "*" that shines over is my journal for EVERY little new codex is my distraction nightmare.

I wouldn't call the Souls games friendly, but they are their cruel brutality is quite elegant / fair. BOTW is the probably the best designed game of all time on every level. Blizzard is incredible with their systems.

What? The weapon breaking mechanic is completely manageable because the menu is clear as all heck. I had zero issues and I'm crazy sensitive to that stuff.

It...had a quick menu? You just hold down one of the buttons on the D-pad and you can quick equip weapons and shields. The small size of your inventory makes it easy to scan through what you have making finding another good weapon take almost no time at all.
