That's it. That's the fun. People try to make it so much more complex then it really is... there are reasons things work and reasons things don't work. His comedy, much to the chagrin of the OP, has proven to work by finding an audience. Repeatedly.

At what point do you think I'd disagree with the idea that fact that of course "cruel, people-hating" comedy wouldn't be popular? It's the de facto standard of the "two and half men" audience. I get it. I know why it works. But all comedy comes down to a question...

"who do you want to include? who do you not want to include?" For all the argument, it's really just that. And I know who Phillips is making jokes for and at. But unlike other dark, miserly comics, I don't he's got a good sharpness on his blade. That's how it busts for me.

You think that's what comedy is? You are... Grossly misinformed. It's not about inclusion or exclusion. It's not about cruelty. Pryor, Carlin, and many others weren't trying to exclude or include, it opens the door to how we live and how we cover it up. It's about revelation.

I'm not misinformed. It's literally a W. Kamau Bell quote, ya dingus. And please don't be just another internet dude who comes along and talks about Pryor and Carlin like I'm not a humongous fan. As for the notion of cruelty and victimhood...

Mel Brooks said it perfectly, "tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall down an open manhole and die." And what was brilliant about that was not that he meant it, what was brilliant was that he was identifying the heart of how empathy creates bond.

To that, the "mes" and "yous" are exactly what defines an audience, who is a fan of who, and so forth. This is comedy 101. Ive been writing about it for years. But rather than look at any of the writing behind any of this stuff, you're saying i'm misinformed and talking down.

I don't know what to say. But I'm just saying this stuff is all there. And you get mad at me or you can learn. It's up to you. Good luck.

I'm not mad. I'm disgusted at the direction your "research" and writing has taken you, diverting your focus from what comedy is to what you think comedy targets. If you don't like my comments on Carlin, perhaps you'd prefer Marx? The Groucho variety? (CON'T)

It was he and his brothers who helped shatter the cultural taboos of the time by exposing how people LIVED, rather than mere wordplay. And comedy isn't about excluding or including, but in about exposing. Quoting a midling stand-up act turned CNN talking head doesnt change it.
