And on some level, they *know* most manual labor / low-wage work is harder. That's why they don't do it. But that's when you realize they're saying this as a cover for the fact that what they *really* want to go back to saying is that "certain types of people have their roles"

The monster of phrenological thinking hangs over the entire thing. It's sickening, especially when it's subconscious in them. But then it all just gets wrapped up in the tribalism and talking points and we miss the intended, haunting, racist thought at the center of it.

So many criticisms of "socialism" just reveal how little people understand about how capitalism works. People getting paid the same despite doing different amounts of work, capitalism. Working hard just so that someone else benefits from your work, also capitalism.

This kind of reminds me of the Theory of the Leisure Class by Thorstein Veblen who basically lays out that we devalue productive labor because we do not want to do labor yet prize occupations and people who do almost nothing...
