@FilmCritHULK Question: I don't know if it's a term or if I'm making shit up. Primary climax at the end of part/act 1 while slowing the pace and then a Secondary climax and third act conclusion? Is that a thing? Or am I just renaming/misunderstanding the technical bits of writing

I don't know if it's a thing but lemme try and simplify. Don't worry about matching some arbitrary over arching structure. Get me from one scene to the next with purpose, clarity, and evolving conflict. The rest of it works out.

Okay thanks. Cus movement isn't the hurdle I just hit. It's like...There's almost too much momentum built up in this draft and I know I have to space it out more. Also resolutions like...how? Idk I appreciate the advice.

If it feels like too much momentum, you might either be rushing it or cutting of conflicts before they have time to explode (and change the nature of the conflict sooner). Look at big scenes and think "how could this come to a head now? what would that change?" ... maybe???

Hmmm no you're right. The motivations I have right now aren't inHERENTly diametric between the characters. So far only two of them have clearly defined wants and needs. The rest are almost really well placed set pieces in motion...

When you say change the nature of the conflict, do you mean allow characters to evolve their understanding of the problems they face? Or evolve the stakes of why they want what they want? jw

This is kind of where I’m at rn. A requires more time but that’s not sustainable. B is a slow burn but more achievable. C is what I’m aiming for.pic.twitter.com/uXMmemO4Mp

      1. I really can't dig into the diagnostics without knowing the story, I can hopefully just get you to ask the right questions. 2. I am also going to make your life easier, through those overarching diagrams in the trash. They don't help, they more confuse you.

just sit down with every scene and ask, what's the conflict? how does the scene evolve the conflict? how are the characters feeling about? then use your gut. Simplify.

Okay that actually makes a lot of sense. Scene by scene and build from that.

Honestly thanks for the advice. Boiling things down to their essentials really helped me find each persons motivation and state it simply in text via their actions. I think my antagonist is only gonna be better for it.
