The Last Black Man in San Francisco is incredible. Note perfect story + theming, and it's first time in ages I've been taken with a new style from a director (the way it plays with verticality and z-axis and spacing). Best film I've seen this year.

And what seems to be lost in the conversation of Jimmy Fails' story is his performance, which is extraordinary. He carries so much with so much quiet, but you know exactly what he's thinking and feeling at every second. In love with it.

I still keep thinking about it, chiefly how it really seems to cut through a lot of the B.S. and problems of respectability politics and frame it in more interesting conversations of empathy, toxic masculinity, and generational trauma. Just beautiful.
