There is a period of Hollywood blockbusters from around HOLLOW MAN (2000) through to 2012 (2009) that seem driven by “we can do it/anything with a computer.” Whereas the modern blockbuster era is defined by “just good enough CGI.”

It’s also around 2009 when the filmmakers best suited for working with CGI got lost into the mechanics (Bay/Snyder/Peter Jackson/etc.) it’s also when the pipeline got somewhat stabilized.
