I think the thinking (which I personally agree with) is that having that same kind of chaos to the Banner/Hulk relationship after 5 years would’ve made the character seem stagnant.

Maybe go all the way with the metaphor and have them literally talking to themselves schizophrenia style. That way it seems like they’ve made significant strides in their relationship during the time skip, but there’s still a synthesis yet to build to by the end.

I was genuinely shocked that when the ancient one knocked Banner out of the Hulk body the Hulk didn’t stand back up and keep going. It felt like a missed oppprtunity to actually adress their merge.

I think it speaks that the “merge” isn’t quite what Banner thinks it is.

This piece tracks so specifically+clearly Hulk's MCU journey all the way to it's telegraphed ending. It made me reflect on how many of ENDGAME's problems are inherited from IW, and the stark contrast with Whedon, who tried as heck to earn the charm of these "group hug" movies.

Was reminded of a story an AoU story: Whedon had a great 3rd act moment for Hulk but didn't use it bc it didn't work for the character's arc. It was rumored that the idea was for Banner to be in the Buster suit and bust out of it transformed as the Hulk...
