Whoa, ok, relax. You’re right that was kinda poorly worded. I was at work. My badly-conveyed point was that any perceived insensitivity on the part of Colbert is (IMO) innocent and Q’s about death are things he doesn’t shy away from due to his personal tragedies.

"whoa, ok, relax" is the least helpful thing to say to someone when you want to find common ground, bub.

If he opened with "for the love of god" would you have the same reaction?

We’ve let this be, but to me “for the love of god” is about the point itself. Telling someone to “relax” well you can google the context of that term for yourself if its not obvious.

I was going to let it be as well, but since we're here, lets talk about word choice. In text, unlike vocal conversations, there's no emotional context until it's deliberately written. One has every opportunity to craft the message before hitting send.

Hulk chose to use “for the love of god” in response. That's a choice. It's a deliberate escalation. It's designed to convey Hulk's anger/exasperation at my tweet. It's designed to say “This idea is so dumb & it makes me so angry. People should know that and pay attention.”

Moreover, this is a public forum. So Hulk's word choice conveys the idea that Hulk wants to publicly put me & my response down and ridicule it instead of having a conversation. The moral high ground has been ceded. And I won't let that pass unremarked-upon.

Therefore, I chose to use “relax” in response. Deliberately. I'm actually well aware of it's harmful usage. Maybe not my finest moment, I'll grant you, but hardly surprising and probably warranted. And brought about by Hulk's escalation.

I could go on about Hulk's further condescension to me by calling me “bub,” (assigning nicknames to people being a rather Trump-ian tactic to claim the power position in an interaction) but at that point we were both not our best selves and I thought we would just let it be.

I like Hulk. I respect Hulk and have enjoyed following Hulk's feed. I like studying movies and appreciate Hulk's insights, which are far deeper than mine. But I will not be needlessly and publicly ridiculed without response.

As someone who deals with public ridicule 24/7 regardless of what I say- trust me, dont worry about it or be defensive or feel inferiority- there is no reason, unless it is the true fear in your heart.
