World is a deeply cynical movie that quite literally makes a 1:1 example of how its audience is dumb, without offering anything that really transcends that notion. It really feels flippant. Whatever Awaken's faults, it genuinely wants to delight an audience it belongs to.https://twitter.com/nandASolo1/status/1127478516017172480 …

Why is the first Jurassic World described as a "film that hates it's audience"? And what makes it different from a film like The Force Awakens?

As I look back, I agree it may have been cynical about its own existence, and the park’s existence. But I disagree that it hated its audience. I wanted the majesty of the things we love to transcend the profit-driven motivations for their resurrection. Like movies can.

This gets into a larger conversation about intent. But I'll admit I have a hard time talking to a filmmaker about their own film on twitter? I mean, we are talking about something that is ultimately and irrevocably deeply personal to you, as it should be.

And my analysis, no matter how incisive or unfair or productive or pedantic or beautiful or blunt or silly or loving or mean, is ultimately me talking about "the object" in a very different way because I am irrevocably coming from the outside of all of it.

I mean, it's not because I'm afraid to talk about it, as I'm sure there's all sorts of conversations we could have in different settings. But this space I'd rather use for us talking about other films / points we both love, if that makes sense?
