Avatar has gotten so much hate since it's initial release that I often feel ashamed that I still find genuine enjoyment out of it despite it's faults.

That’s because it’s still a gobsmackingly well made movie. Most of the ‘cool kids’ who now hate it wouldn’t know a good film if it slapped the phone out their hands

Finished up the Korra series 3 days ago. I am retroactively outraged at Cameron for creating a world where the term "Avatar" isn't immediately associated with the Legend of Aang.

This is probably all true but I also think the movies' use of Native American imagery and media tropes as the shorthand for an alien race being (literally) connected with nature is... well, troublesome enough that I think the sequels wont be able to get over it.

(I know this is a somewhat separate thing from the construction of the movie, but this also isn't just one scene or one character- it's the entire movie, down to its bones)

I dunno, even though Titanic’s plot was very bare it still succeeded on compelling us to care for its leads, while years later no one remembers much about any of Avatar’s characters.

I feel it had something to do with tragedy is more memorable than a "happy ending"
