What to say about Endgame without really spoiling? All the ways it works are utter proof of how good and meaningful Phase One was and utter proof of how meaningless, purposeless, and wheel-spinning the rest was, *especially* the last few entries...

I’m guessing he means that the most solid character work was pulled off during that first initial phase... and a big part of why the original Avengers’ payoffs work so well in ENDGAME. The characters haven’t changed much in between.

That's a bad take. Literally every single Avenger has had a major Post Phase 1 arc. I'm not going into spoilers on an open thread, but trying to claim that the Cap and Tony in this movie were the same people they were in Avengers or even Ultron is a baffling atextual take
