I'm assuming there's plenty of spoilers, so I should wait until I finish the game to read it?

if you are gonna finish, then wait. If you unsure about finishing cause you aren't into it? The article sort of validates that.

Couldn't tell you. It feels like they've been learning the wrong lessons for a few games now.

This mini book was amazing! Thanks to you and all involved! Hope Devs read it and come away inspired and informed!

Whoa, this was long, but very provocative. I’m playing it through for the second time, and - my awe at the “world” having subsided somewhat - am extremely frustrated with the linearity of mission. Plus, as you say, the story is a freaking car crash of bad decisions.
-
Sadie is, for me, the sole character with any real depth. Arthur is intriguing but broken by the inherent disconnect between missions-Arthur and freeplay-Arthur.

Great piece. I didn't play for very long for most of the reasons you described. Why is my video game horse constantly exhausted!

Re: Realism. This was definitely heavily implied throughout, and explicitly discussed in a few points, but all the "realism" felt like a veneer. The game's core wasn't realism, it was A to B, with some C through F storytelling. RDR2 presented itself as an immersive experience 1/

But in actuality there were two games afoot. There was the immersive realism and then there was everything else. Everything from the story missions to the "random encounters" took me out of the immersive realism. Like the game attempting to pull you back into the game. 2/
