VS's Campaign wasn't as tight, and was even more inconsistent/spikier with the difficulty (YMMV, tho). Played it... well, shit, I was gonna say a few years ago with my brother but now it's near a decade. It was still pretty fun in Co-op.

The 3rd one where you could fly the Falcon into the 2nd DS was on paper, amazing, but in practice, sooo hard.

You come away from it with a whole swath of respect for Lando and Nien Nunb's flying skills, that's for certain.

I played TIE Fighter SO MUCH as a kid. I was never good enough to do it without cheats, but I loved the storytelling so much, a look at the empire beyond the cackling sycophants and petty dictators, the nuts-and-bolts of how the Imperial Navy kept the galaxy under its thumb.

I had to cheat past one or two levels (the main where your star destroyer is taken out and you have to stop assault transports taking out your platforms for one) but I played the heck out of it as a teenager too
