Re: the Cuphead discussion, it makes infinite more sense to link to a well-thought article then simply reference the lack. The ultimate point is that the creators' attitude of "It’s just visuals and that’s about it" can't be the way we engage arthttps://unwinnable.com/2017/11/10/cuphead-and-the-racist-spectre-of-fleischer-animation/ …

And conflating their work with real world racism is? Why are so many critics more than happy to continually ignore the intent of the artist?

The creator doesn't get to choose how people interpret their art work. Part of being a creator.

But I'm very interested in why particular people would twist the intent of the artist for nefarious reasons. Where's the value? "To start a conversation?"

That's very similar logic to the, 'It's just a joke bro" of dodging of responsibility of ones actions. One person's twisting is another person's critical eye on history depending on who's side you find yourself on.

I can understand that - but it doesn't have much nuance or complexity. Luckily, sides don't really interest me - the truth does. Art does. I feel we're already way off topic now. Artistic intent matters more than page clicks.

"Art does" - and yet you are arguing for artists who literally said they had no artistic intent?

If they had no artistic intent - that's their prerogative. You're now working your hardest to ensure their work is associated with racist history. Read your first tweet back: is that a nuanced thoughtful tweet on this topic? Is it?

Yes. It is. I am literally arguing for thoughtfulness with the art you creating and you are arguing for non-thought. You understand that, right?

You know full well that your first tweet dog-whistled "Cuphead =racist". Why not just elevate the conversation by truthfully exploring the complexity of this art style whilst taking into the account of intention of the artists.

Hahahahahahaha so we're using the term to "dog-whistle" for reverse racism now? Yeah that's a block. I get your game. Over. Done.
