this whole giant thread is so special to me, but the last three tweets here at the end make my heart feel so full 😭 🌊🌏🔥💨 foreverhttps://twitter.com/FilmCritHULK/status/1114614976671436800 …

      Charlie Hoppes added,

And now, I happily include Avatar: The Last Airbender in their company. Because it is among the best televisions shows I've ever seen. But it doesn't need me to say that... It validates itself.

this element in TV is what I’ve found more compelling than anything else, from Avatar and Steven Universe to The Leftovers and Friday Night Lights. The journey from who we were to who we are. Well said @FilmCritHULK, & thank you for this beautiful threadhttps://twitter.com/filmcrithulk/status/1114613530525818881?s=21 …

      Charlie Hoppes added,

Genuine Epics understand the biggest journey is often from who you were to who you are... Along with all the ways we can stay true to our most moral and aching hearts. And embracing all the forms of power that are so much more intimate and emotional than the political.

I watched Avatar for the first time in Jan/Feb. I loved it so much, and the last episode was maybe the most disappointed I’ve ever been in a TV show

I can’t stand when superheroes just randomly discover/acquire a power. Especially when we’re already so invested in them and the powers they have

I'll be honest, that's like a really reductive way to characterize how that power is acquired and the lessons / understanding that goes into the choice behind it.

I understood the choice behind it and how the action itself fits into his character. I think it was a great way to end the show, in theory. My problem is with the execution. I just wish that, like bending, he also had to learn the skill of taking bending powers away

would that have added anything of substance?
