Love you both to death, but holy heck do I disagree with this on the systematic level - all the invisible, subtle gatekeeping procedures STILL keep rooms stocked with harvard lampoon dudes and then maybe one amazing POC writer who was great at twitter so they're "giving a chance"

I know that sounds like an extreme dynamic, but it's still the dynamic - I could talk endlessly about the ways this is changing and what's behind those kinds of influences. But still, class / college has a radical effect on getting in the door. Just no one cares when you're in.

But this is anecdotal bias and it's the very basis of conservative thought (akin to men who don't believe women get catcalled cause they dont see it). Whether you are the exception or the rule, look at the system and how it's populated, because that system isn't lying.

But I actually work in that system too. I'm looking at the plain-faced reality that that system is lopsided and looking at the ways that happens. Where one of the chief problems is when people in that system insist that the system is a pure meritocracy and isn't lopsided.
