Not because you're trying to wow the audience or "grab their attention," but because they're so important in terms of what you communicate to the audience in terms of setting up the rest of the film. CM (and a lot of other marvel movies) understands implicitly that...

they need to give audience the certain information. But they've never have any idea how to really dramatize it, and create compelling immediate motivations, nor get into the real psychology of a character (something phase one movies were actually quite good at).

They just sort of present parameters that are simply meant to be filled in. I'd be more specific, but I don't want to spoil. But once one thing happens in this film it's like the movie finally "starts."

Yeah I think most people will agree with you about where it starts. I loved the movie dearly but the opening fell kinda flat.

This is the whole thing, people take away how something "feels" but I spend my life talking about dramatic mechanics and that opening isn't a feeling, it's not knowing what the fuck you are doing. And I'm so tired of this.
