Seriously, though. It was those high school / college prime video game years and I was absurdly good at that game. Like no one EVER beat me, even three-on-one. But it was also pre-internet so I have no idea HOW good I was relative and it vaguely bothers me.

PS - the ultimate mode that is a test of skill? Pistols. License to Kill. Basement. It's all quick draw and angles and checking your six. Pure joy.

Golden Eye is the one game where this story pops up over and over again. Everyone thought they were the best, including myself. I’d be interested in a epic online tourney.

Name the time and place and I, the best GoldenEye player in my pre-internet hub of like maybe 6 friends, will be there with my N64. Pistols at dawn!

License to kill does even the odds for folks who can't head shot. Never cared for the basement tho. Complex was my fav. And pyramid, for some reason

I had a similar thing with Halo. I wrecked the dorms because we only played LAN, and I thought I was super good. Then one day a guy joined who had been playing in tournaments, and he made me look like a six-year-old.

At one house, screen watching became such a problem that to defeat it, after spawning, I would do a quick check of where I was, then navigate the memorized map while staring at walls (while screen watching them back)

Did you ever learn the spawn sequence of any maps? A mate of mine figured out one map, and if you died could snipe you / spawn trap you so you effectively lost the match

If you had to check your six that would suggest to me you weren't that good. We all looked at all 4 viewpoints so knew where each player was.
