Loved Spider-Verse but I don’t know that you needed to slam Homecoming to do it. Frankly, one of the things I loved about it is how the class issues are constantly bumoing up against the teen comedy stuff.

Fair enough. I’d like to read that review! You always have interesting stuff to say. I just feel like the class subtext I read into Homecoming has been glossed over by most critics.

Yeah, I agree that the Achilles' heel in the MCU is that all the genre hopping can leave a film feeling unfulfilled. I don't have a central thesis but I do think the film's use of class is fairly consistent from beginning to end, even if it's not always addressed directly.

But I don't think they're genre hopping at all. I don't even think they're doing genre. And it's messaging on class is the standard conservative naysaying, "don't make your money off crime, people without jobs!" while the billionaire is untouchable by all reason and law.

The "feeling" of this movie is all well-intentioned, but the text is toxic in basically every space. Especially in class, with what it hits on, and what it completely ignores (like spiderman having any money struggles whatsoever)

It's not the kind of reality the MCU likes anymore. They're in the fun and games department with the lip-service of morality that doesn't apply to the actual events.
