I like how old movies are filled with scenes where guys knock people out with a single punch, really confidently, like they just knew one punch was all they needed. Also all the people getting knocked unconscious by blows to the head and not suffering further damage.

I've been knocked out a couple of times in my life by blows to the head, once as a kid on the playground, and again as a young adult when something fell on me. I had to recover. I wasn't running around right afterward like movie characters!

Another old movie thing that never sat right with me was the hero knocking somebody out with a punch or the butt of a gun to spare them from having to participate in the big action scene at the end. What if they returned afterward and found the person dead of a brain injury?

This actually gets into a weird conversation about boxing / punches. It drives me crazy when movies don't realize the way you knock someone out is by hitting the jaw and vigorously "snapping" the neck. But hitting in the HEAD head?

That's concussion and brain injury town not knocking out. A boxer / martial artist will know the difference and probably the kind of person who can just line-up the jaw and do this. It's also why boxers protect their jaw and not the top of their head.
