To be clear, I understand the incentives: from the 5 second youtube skip element, to the documentation that shows a tiny bump in overall views. But what's still true, and should be clear from the responses to this, is that people completely freaking HATE IT.

And this gets to whole element of design and marketing that people don't think about. They always wants to reach the most ppl possible and look at overalls in black and white terms of "good." But no one ever thinks about the damage of these choices.

It literally takes away from the overall quality of the experience. But they just assume people will get used to it and deal. Well, here I am not talking about the great trailer. I'm talking about how annoyed I am by what came before.

It was once pointed out to me that it's probably to make sure people get some version of the trailer even if it's a 5 second ad before another video on youtube and then gets skipped

And I HATE it

Online adverts and social media. It's so that whether it's playing as a skipable ad on a YouTube video or you're scrolling past it on an app it still catches your eye. Even some editors hate them, but has to be done for efficient modern marketing.

@chrismcquarrie addressed this very honestly during FALLOUT’s promo period, and sadly, I don’t think they’re going anywhere soon.
