It's okay, they want to do it as well. Pokemon naturally battle, and lots of them seek out trainers because trainers are good at a.) helping them get stronger and b.) they stop the fights before it goes too far. I have had 20 years to justify this to myself.

Apparently pokemon like fighting each other, the big difference between the villians and you in the first couple of games is that they abuse their pokemon and view them as tools, and you actually form a bond and that bond makes you stronger. Literally stronger too in Let's Go.
