Okay, I've waited to comment on the whole "Twilight is the worst movie of all time" thing because, frankly, I feel like trying to name the worst movie of all time is a self-defeating endeavor. For starters, most people haven't seen all the movies that exist.

I mean, I haven't seen any of the Twilight movies. For all I know, they're good. Even if they're not, I might not dislike them as much as The Room or Sidehackers or Un Chien Andalou. And that's the real trouble here -- taste is subjective, opinion is subjective.

Even if you really hate something, all that means is that you really hate it. For example, I liked the Star Wars prequels. They did what I wanted from Star Wars -- they gave me lightsaber fights and cool Jedi powers being used. Others clearly hated them. Both opinions are valid.

Twilight has never struck me as trying to be some kind of horror novel or a rigorous story that used established vampire myth and folklore as its foundation. And that's okay. People are allowed to like it without qualifications. Dubbing it "the worst thing ever" misses the point

Now, this doesn't make it exempt from criticism. You could sit down and do a critical analysis and point out its flaws, whatever they are (I haven't seen the films or read the books) and that's fair. But that requires a good deal more analytical thinking than "here's a poll"

I first discovered
@FilmCritHULK via his analysis of Twilight, which was brilliant. It has a ton of glass, but the stuff that people like to tell about is really the least of it.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
I also completely renounce my old take on it. In the end, it was still just me pearl-clutching over the morality of young women's lit. They KNOW it's problematic, but they like the indulgence of it anyway and god help us if they can't just have that. I needed to grow up.

fwiw, I agree, I consume stuff that I know is problematic too. It was just fascinating to see someone break down the how's and why's so thoroughly.
