I thought back to Chris Franklin's video essay on The Last of Us a lot while playing RDR2, it's like one last gasp to keep these sorts of oil-and-water game productions alivehttps://youtu.be/bAzqDgKYfiM

I intensely disagree with the assumptive idea that its oil and water. All cinematics really have to be is good at storytelling. Most arent. Theres nothing inherently blocking people from jumping between the two

I still think its one of the best games of the year, but it has too many problems for me to say “its my favorite”. It itches a lot of things, my love of westerns and open world action games, but it has...dumb in it.

It says something that Arthur Morgan is my favorite Rockstar protagonist ever primarily because he actually goes through a character arc.

Have you tried Kingdom Come Deliverance? An RPG experience that challenges you on so many levels, instead of the simple and boring "hold Aim, press Shoot" gameplay of RDR2
