It’s also a microcosm of the problem we have in media and journalism where pundits and people don’t have awareness and can be defensive over the effect their words and actions can have on people, and how it can hurt people even if there just trying to do their jobs

Not just food criticsm. Instagram has the same impact and places like the national parks are getting trashed by people who just want to get their shot because they saw somebody else's first. It's a great article about protecting what we love, responsibility how we share.

This was quite painful to read but it seemed necessary. These kinds of reviews and lists are made with good intentions but it doesn't prevent the horde mentality or the assholishness of entitled people...

I popped over there for lunch about a week into the closure, and had no idea it still hadn’t re-opened. What a bummer.

Oh god. I went there about a year ago based on it being called the best burger. Thankfully it was early on a weekday and not busy at all and the staff were lovely and the burger was exceptional and it was a lovely experience. This is very sad.

I’m not sure what the takeaway is for me, the potential customer looking for a good meal while on travel, or even at home. I considered it a good thing for a restaurant to be featured on lists or a TV show, like Bourdain’s.
-
The takeaway is simply understanding the core of what the "listing" does to the place in a viral culture, how it can change the experience, make it impossible to get into, etc. And adjusting your expectations accordingly or finding somewhere else or more just having empathy.
